Our Story

Our Team

Cathy Landolt (she/her)

Founder & CEO

Cathy spent 20-something years in marketing and event production until she finally admitted she REALLY hated early mornings that didn’t involve a flight to an exotic vacation. She founded Blue Elephant to focus on the world of marketing and communications and hasn’t looked back.

Cathy happily works from a variety of locations on a wide range of B2B and B2C projects, helping clients bring their ideas to life online and IRL through digital marketing, content creation, traditional media, and website development.

After realizing her childhood goal of being on The Muppet Show was unlikely to come to fruition, Cathy started her career in marketing after completing her degree in Music and History.

[Ed note:  This may still happen!  See Disney+ Muppet reboot!]

She considers herself fortunate to have found great collaborators in Victoria and Sharon, and (most days) wakes up really excited about her clients’ projects.

When not answering messages at ridiculous hours, Cathy loves watching baseball, the edible kind of cookies, learning new things, and will travel anywhere/anytime at the drop of a hat.

(She would also make a bad elephant. She is allergic to peanuts.)

Victoria Borg (she/her)

Digital Marketing Manager

Victoria creates content for a variety of our clients, balancing information, education, and personality across social media, newsletters, articles, and websites.  Her experience producing digital and IRL events, paired with her talent for organizing and synthesizing details, means she’s always got great iinsights to share.

Victoria Borg joined the Blue Elephant herd in 2021. She comes to this position after years of working in the arts as a classical singer, music teacher, and more recently, a project and program manager. She has been responsible for producing numerous digital events, workshops, and fundraisers, including a 12+ hour webcast in support of music education (during which time she dazzled Cathy with her migraine-inducing, colour-coded spreadsheets).

She holds a Master’s of Opera and Voice from McGill University, with additional degrees from the University of Manitoba and Western University. She’s curated an impressive collection of wool socks and long johns as a result of living in so many cold and snowy cities.

When not working, Victoria can be found cooking, gardening, reading, biking, and baking. Her strengths include copywriting, creative problem solving, and feeding people. Her weaknesses include managing her downloads folder, staying awake during movies, and ice skating.

Sharon Tikiryan (she/her)

Digital Marketing Manager

Sharon has been a proud member of the Blue Elephant herd since 2021. Whether developing social media strategy, writing newsletters, or building websites, her creative and engaging work is infused with a lifelong love of language and storytelling, and a passion for helping her clients connect with their communities and share their stories.

Prior to joining the herd, Sharon served as a youth program manager for a national music education advocacy organization (where she met Cathy!), and spent two decades (and counting!) as a voice teacher and classical singer. If you’d told her as a child that one day she would create content for social media and build websites, she wouldn’t have believed you. (Partly because she wanted to be a writer and a singer when she grew up, and partly because those things did not yet exist.)

Sharon is a graduate of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (M.Ed.), Memorial University of Newfoundland (M.Mus.), and Queen’s University (B.Mus.).

In her spare time she enjoys reading, baking, biking, hiking, collecting mugs and vinyl records, playing guitar, knitting, drinking tea, and singing with her choir. She also enjoys watching various sports, even though it may not always be good for her blood pressure.

Anthea Ariyajeyam (she/her)

Digital Marketing Coordinator

Anthea started her journey with us as a part of our summer team in 2023 helping us with brand guidelines and designs for clients’ social media. She helps our clients make eye-catching newsletters, social media posts, and brings new ideas to the table.

Before joining us, she got her undergraduate degree in Engineering from Ontario Tech University in 2020. With the world shut down, she re-evaluated her life (like everyone else at the time) and decided to complete the Creative Advertising program at Seneca College.

In her spare time you’ll find her making nail art, taking photos and taking 20 minutes deciding on what movie she should watch (yes, this a hobby according to her).

FAQs

What services do you offer?

Blue Elephant’s main services are social media, websites, and marketing. We do everything from copywriting to designing graphic assets to analytics and everything in between! We also offer a few additional services that fall outside of our three main areas, and we are available for white label work. Get in touch to learn more!

What are your rates?

Well, it depends! We offer a variety of monthly packages and “Ele”-carte digital marketing add-ons that can be adapted to suit your needs. Check out our Pricing Packages page to learn more.

What are your hours?

Blue Elephant is typically “open” Monday-Friday from 9-5, but we have been known to work outside of those hours. Work-life balance is important to us, and we encourage our team to build schedules that work for them.

There is always at least one elephant minding the shop at all times, except during our annual Christmas holiday closure. We are also closed on all statutory holidays plus Groundhog Day (yes, there’s a story behind that!).

Where are you located?

Blue Elephant is based in Toronto, but we work with individuals and organizations all across Canada, and in the UK.

Where are your clients located?

One of the advantages of being a remote agency is that we aren’t bound by geography or time zones.

We currently work with clients based in the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and the United Kingdom.

How do you work with clients as a remote team?

We typically meet with clients on a weekly or monthly basis over Zoom or Google Meet (or Teams, if necessary), depending on the needs of each client. We also stay in regular communication via email, and ensure that our clients have access to all the necessary Google Drive files and folders.

We have also been known to meet in person with clients in the Toronto area.

What makes Blue Elephant different from other agencies?

We provide bigger marketing agency services on a smaller scale, making us affordable to small businesses, arts organizations, and solopreneurs. We’re collaborative, transparent with our processes, and we believe in empowering and educating our clients.

We also mentor students and recent graduates throughout the year, to help them kickstart their careers. We meet really interesting people and get lots of great new ideas for our clients.

What is your policy around AI?

That’s a BIG topic of discussion these days, isn’t it?  At Blue Elephant, we think of ChatGPT (and similar programs) as a form of Wikipedia – a great place to get some ideas but you NEVER. EVER. submit a report based on Wikipedia. We might get some suggestions from AI if we’re stuck, but we do not use it to write your posts or articles.

We also strongly believe in supporting real people doing real jobs. Photographers, graphic designers, composers, musicians, and artists of all kinds. We have used AI to help us create a quick image for a social post (e.g, we created a pink laptop for a client’s newsletter and a peanut butter and tomato sandwich….don’t ask….), but we believe work done by humans will always have more soul, personality, and authenticity than an algorithm.

It is pretty cool to see what AI can do. We can see many applications to help us do our jobs better and more efficiently, but we take pride in the fact that our work is done FOR humans BY humans.

Anything you want! He can’t hear you!
